Manchester rain

Another lonely night,
where I’m joined by Manchester rain,
disguising my tears.

My soul, defiant of defeat,
cries in rebellion with your stares.

I can’t do anything but blame the universe—
the same universe that showed me a rose
yet forbade me from ever holding it.

Now I’m a prisoner in this concrete jungle,
where your name is never spoken,
yet I search for you everywhere I go.

A name that sends shivers through me,
and a scent that carries me
to Alice’s Wonderland.
